Guess the Famous Dad
June 15th 2009 08:12
Many celebrities have famous fathers who helped get their careers started. Some of them you probably already know about, like Billy Ray & Miley Cyrus or Martin & Charlie Sheen. However there are many more fathers who've managed to stay hidden in the background, until now. Thanks to asylum.com, today we present Celebrity Dads!
You might assume that Gweenie's famous mom Blythe Danner is to thank/blame for her career. But her father was also a bigwig behind the scenes. Do you know which TV show he was responsible for?
Gwyneth's pop was one of the brains behind "St. Elsewhere," and worked on "The White Shadow" and "Homicide," among other shows. Bruce also coaxed his famous daughter into singing with Huey Lewis in the karaoke movie "Duets" they worked on together. Sadly, Gwyneth and her less famous brother Jake lost their father to oral cancer in 2002. If only Bruce had been around to tell Gwyneth and her Coldplay hubby not to name their kid after a fruit.
She patented her own hairstyle and lives a tabloid soap opera thanks to splits from Brad Pitt and John Mayer. But her father is actually on a soap opera. Can you guess which one? Hint: "Like sands through the hourglass…"
"….so are the days of our lives." Yes, Jennifer's pop is the villainous Victor Kiriakis on "Days of Our Lives." Though the Greek-American actor has also appeared on "The West Wing" and "Gilmore Girls," he never turned up on "Friends." And Joey was a soap actor. That seems like a no-brainer
The Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman is known for his heroin use and rock 'n roll lifestyle (and songs about such). But Anthony Keidis can thank his actor dad for introducing him to the hard living life. Can you spot Antony's dad in "Lethal Weapon"?
Born John Keidis, Blackie Dammett played tough guys and drug dealers in movies like "Lethal Weapon" and "Nine Deaths of the Ninja." Antony delved into his father's wild days partying with Led Zeppelin, The Who, and other rock greats in his autobiography "Scar Tissue," (soon to be a gritty HBO series) revealing how his own addiction dovetailed with his dad's lifestyle. Today both are clean and sober, and very close. (Anthony adopted the name "Cole Dammett" for his few acting appearances.) Blackie ran the Chili Peppers fan club for many years before retiring, and now maintains a MySpace page. Maybe HBO will cast him as a grizzled Sunset Strip punk rocker in the TV show.
She's the "Parks and Recreation" cutie who bewitched John Krasinksi on "The Office" (and in real life). Meanwhile, you can thank her pop for "Thriller" and pretty much every other Michael Jackson hit. No, it's not Tito Jackson.
Yep, the magical combination of music maestro Quincy Jones and the supremely hot Peggy Lipton of "Twin Peaks" and "Mod Squad" fame produced the gorgeous and funny Rashida. Mostly known for acting these days, Rashida has sung on a few albums and penned a chapter of her pop's autobiography. And she probably has some crazy stories from the "Thriller" recording sessions.
Since appearing together in "Donnie Darko," the Gyllenhaal kids have blown through Hollywood in everything from "Brokeback Mountain" to "The Dark Knight." Turns out they can both thank dad for their big break.
What better way to score your first role than in a movie directed by your dad? Maggie made her big screen debut in the Jeremy Irons drama "Waterland," directed by Stephen Gyllenhaal. (Her next several films would also be helmed by daddy.) And though he came to fame with "October Sky" and "Bubble Boy," (how was that not a career killer?) Jake's first break came in his dad's aptly named drama "Homegrown." Meanwhile, Maggie and Jake's screenwriter mom, Naomi Foner, collaborated with Stephen on the movies "Losing Isaiah" and "A Dangerous Woman" before filing for divorce in 2008. No wonder Maggie and Jake both have high profile celebrity relationships-they're most comfortable around their own kind.
