Big Dog

July 6th 2006 05:18
We've seen photos of perhaps the fattest dog in the world, but what about the biggest? Below is a contender. I'm unable to determine his exact size or breed, but you'll have to admit, that's one giant pooch.

It's a Caucasian Mountain dog. Huge animals. They're used to protect the shepherd's flocks from wolves in the Caucus (sp) mountains.

PhotoShopped. Look at the size of the grass and weeds in the photo. The girl is shopped into the picture.

The girl might be shopped into the picture but, these dogs can grow 180 plus pounds and over six feet when they stand. Who ever commented above does not know jack about these dogs. This dog really is that big.

who ever said that the newfoundland was a new breed, is an idiot, that breed has been around forever, the indians as well as eskimos both used this dog as a working dog and a loyal companion,,,but however this pic is not of a newfoundland . the other people are correct it is a caucasian mountain dog,,,,,,,,, but there could be a chance of it being a mut of the two breeds if anything

Looks lika Ovcharka (Caucasian Shepard Dog) like few people already mentioned, or rather some sort of mix of few different types. Sarplaninac mixed with Newfoundland for example!

If you would get NewFoundlander on steroids and sent him to wilderness to practice with wolves (Ovcharka and Sharplaninac are known to attack bears in order to protect the flock?!?!?!?!?!!?) you would get this kind of dog.

They originate from mountains (Caucasus/EuroAsia and Sar-planina/Balkan, respectively) where its snowing 7 months a year and -30c is tipical temperature in the winter times.

These dogs have no masters but rather they see them as their equals.

Yes very cute indeed, but hard to posses. they are acctualy dogs that think with their own head rather than following the orders.

imposible for training because they acctualy don't need one.

Highly inteligent.

This particular pic IS most probably photoshoped but these dogs do look very similar in nature, sizewise.

Average weight is 100-150lbs.

Not for urban areas. Not to be isolated from society (they go mad and became wild). Not to be tied or in a cage.

this is actually a breed that has been around for very long time, but has not been very well know because of how difficult it it to handle those dogs. They are protectors of property including sheep

That is a caucasian Mountain dog and they are not for pets! They are extremely hard to contain and not cute. Do not get that dog if you think its going to be a pet that plays with the neighborhood kids, they'll eat them.

i second or third, it is a caucasion mountain dog, not a any other breed, DO NOT GET THIS DOG, as they are not pets, cannot be trained to do anything other than gaurd with the ferosity of a male lion defending its pride. this dog will kill other dogs/animals/poeple/anything that wander into your yard. DO NOT GET THIS DOG!! leave it in the russian farm lands to do what it was supposed to do. This dog will kill all your neighbors pit bulls then go for the rottweilers as a desert. (experianced gaurd dog owner).

Ok ok ok. I've read through all of your comments.

I've only heard of Newfoundlands being Black or Albino.

ANY DOG CAN BE TRAINED!! A dog is as stupid as the owner.

There are dogs out there that are that big.

Any Dog can be a pet just like pit bulls they are sweet if trained by a sweet owner.

it is a caucasion mountain dog, i own two and he looks identical, they are very good family dogs but very aggressive with stangers unless properly introduced, they are natural protectors of family and property, if you get one you need three very important things, be a very experienced dog owner, have a large yard these dogs need alot of room to roam and three have a big shovel!

i have some friends in oregon who have dogs that look the same. the mother is 180lbs the two boys are bigger. close to 300 ive even seen st. benards that were close to 300. just like people ive seen a free soul biker that made a full dressed harley look like a toy. my friends had to install a special door because when anyone came in the fence the boys would break it unless put in a back room. and the mailman had to call ahead if he needed to deliver to the door. the mother dog was nice as long as you were introduced. but not the boys
