Hedgehogs

June 21st 2010 03:24
Hedgehogs are native to Europe, Asia and Africa but are popular at pets the world over.

Keeping hedgehogs as pets became popular in the early 1980s. Pet hedgehogs still have much of their wild behaviour, including a fear of predators — especially humans, but buying from a responsible breeder and proper handling will do a lot to ensure a friendly relationship. Since domestication began, several new colours of hedgehogs have been created or become common, including albino and pinto hedgehogs.

Domesticated species prefer a warm climate (above 22 °C , 72 °F) and do not naturally hibernate. In the wild they eat a diet of mainly insects, but pet owners generally prefer a diet composed primarily of high protein low fat high quality cat food, with regular treats such as mealworms, fruits, vegetables, and cooked unseasoned meats.

As with all pets plenty of humorous photographs will no doubt end up all over the web. Below is just the start!

A Fishy Story

April 30th 2010 03:20
Fish Story

A guy who lives at Lake Macquarie (50 kms north of Gosford) saw a ball bouncing around kind of strange in the lake and went to investigate.

It turned out to be a flathead catfish who had obviously tried to swallow a basketball which became stuck in its mouth!!

The fish was totally exhausted from trying to dive, but unable to because the ball would always bring him back up to the surface.

The bloke tried numerous times to get the ball out, but was unsuccessful. He finally had his wife cut the ball in order to deflate it and release the hungry

You probably wouldn't have believed this, if you hadn't seen these pictures...

Mike the Headless Chicken

March 15th 2010 01:23
Mike the Headless Chicken (April 1945 – March 1947), also known as Miracle Mike, was a Wyandotte chicken that lived for 18 months after its head had been mostly cut off. Thought by many to be a hoax, the bird was taken by its owner to the University of Utah in Salt Lake City to establish its authenticity.
Miracle Mike

On September 10, 1945, farmer Lloyd Olsen of Fruita, Colorado, had his mother-in-law around for supper and was sent out to the yard by his wife to bring back a chicken. Olsen chose a five-and-a-half month old cockerel named Mike. The axe missed the jugular vein, leaving one ear and most of the brain stem intact
